Business holiday

The main official holiday on May 26 is the Day of Russian Entrepreneurship. It was recently added to the list of public holidays. The President of Russia signed the corresponding decree in the fall of 2007, and a few months later they began to celebrate it. Usually businessmen and public organizations uniting them hold round tables, consultations, seminars and exhibitions on May 26, exchange experiences or simply organize a pleasant holiday for colleagues.

For the first time, entrepreneurial activity in our country was legalized back in the days of the USSR. In 1986, even a law "On individual labor activity" was passed.

The right to conduct business is enshrined even in the Constitution of the Russian Federation. True, so far in this area there are many difficulties, including those associated with bureaucracy. Therefore, a number of social activists consider the introduction of the Day of Russian Entrepreneurship to be a premature measure.

Rescuing the Snow Leopard

In Altai, the Day of the Snow Leopard is celebrated on May 26. This eco-holiday is dedicated to an animal that is on the verge of extinction today. The snow leopard population has dropped to two hundred due to poaching. The fur of the snow leopard, as these felines are also called, shimmers beautifully with pearl and smoky shades and is very expensive. The barbaric extermination of leopards threatens to leave the world without this species of animals in the future.

On Leopard Day, young Altai people usually make crafts, draw wall newspapers and stage performances on the theme of saving snow leopards. And even guests from other countries come to the Altai festival on May 26.

I love my horse …

Another holiday on May 26 is unofficial, albeit very cute. It's Horseman's Day. There are no special celebrations on this occasion, although the owners of the stables and the staff of the racetracks sometimes organize competitions or simply meetings of horse lovers. Most of them think that Horseman's Day is a good reason to treat their pets with carrots or apples. Moreover, these days horses are still very useful to people. For example, for children with cerebral palsy, hippotherapy is a chance to strengthen the body physically and get positive emotions from communicating with a good-natured animal.

If all these reasons to make this day a holiday do not inspire, you should pay attention to the historical dates, for which May is generally rich. On May 26, 1761, Mikhail Lomonosov discovered that there is an atmosphere on Venus, and in 1768 Catherine II ordered to erect a monument to Peter I, which Pushkin would later call "The Bronze Horseman".

According to the national calendar, May 26 - Lukerya Komarnitsa. The abundance of midges on this day promises a harvest of mushrooms, and mosquitoes - berries.

In addition, in 1868, on May 26, the last public execution took place in England, in 1947 the death penalty was banned in the USSR (although the decision was canceled three years later).
