The action "Wine Cellars", which is held in Italy every year, consists in the fact that more than 1,000 wineries of the country open their doors to all comers, conduct excursions, introduce the technology of production and demonstrate the best varieties.
Instructions
Step 1
Check the period of the Cantine Aperte promotion in Italy. This can be done on the official website of the Italian movement "Wine Tourism" (The Movimento Turismo del Vino) in the "Events" section. The site is designed specifically to inform foreign guests and is available in English. Usually this annual event takes place on the last Sunday in May.
Step 2
Select the region of Italy whose wines are of interest to you. In the “Regional Presidents” section, find the contact information for the head of traffic in that area. Write a letter with a request to provide information about wineries that will take part in the "Wine Cellars" campaign. This will help you plan your route and choose the most convenient airport for your arrival in Italy.
Step 3
Plan your trip. Since the "Wine Cellars" promotion lasts for one day, you will have the opportunity to visit only wineries located at a short distance from each other. Therefore, mark the settlements you are interested in on the map, find the nearest international airport.
Step 4
Purchase air tickets to Italy. You can travel within the country by intercity buses, by rail and by a rented car. Please note that driving a car while intoxicated (and it is very likely, given the purpose of the action) is prohibited in Italy.
Step 5
Apply for a Schengen visa to Italy. Detailed information on the conditions for its issuance can be found on the official website of the embassy of this country.
Step 6
Come to the winery of your interest in the morning. You can stroll through the vineyards, see the cellars where wine ferments in barrels, and later stored in bottles. In addition, winemakers will talk about the production of the drink and will conduct tasting of the best varieties.
