Evenings of the fishing tradition are held annually at the end of August in Croatia. Many tourists from everywhere come to the events dedicated to this holiday, who love the sea and everything connected with it.
The main events take place in the Croatian town of Rovinj, located on the coast of the Istrian peninsula. During the holidays, this town with 15 thousand inhabitants is transformed. On its embankment, mobile kitchens are located, in which amazingly tasty dishes are prepared. There are also tables for everyone, so that you can enjoy the delights of the national cuisine overlooking the sea. The smells of fried fish, shrimp and squid are carried throughout the city. They also cook amazingly delicious miniature donuts - a favorite delicacy of many tourists. The most common drinks are the famous Istrian wines and foamy amber beer.
Also, a large stage is being set up on the embankment, on which various creative groups, folklore ensembles in national costumes and solo performers perform throughout the holiday. Their repertoire includes songs about the sea and love, accompanied by beautiful dances. There is a large screen next to the stage, which broadcasts picturesque scenes from the life of the city of Rovinj.
An obligatory component of the annual holiday of fishing traditions in Croatia is the construction of an ancient boat - batans, modeled on those on which distant ancestors were engaged in fishing. Then, amidst general jubilation, the newly built batana in the harbor is launched into the water. Simultaneously with this, demonstration performances on the batans of dexterous rowers begin, writing mesmerizing pirouettes on the sea surface.
In 2012, evenings of the fishing tradition will start in Rovinj on 31 August. Numerous travel companies invite everyone to visit this holiday and get an unforgettable experience of amazing Croatia. If you do not want to use the services of tour operators, take care of buying tickets and booking a hotel yourself.
