May holidays in 2019 in Russia will be record-breaking in length - there will be only three working days for the first twelve days of the month; everything else - weekends, holidays and "extra" weekends carried over from other dates.
For several years now, the State Duma has been discussing whether the Russians really need a long New Year's holidays, and whether they should not arrange a "spring spree" in May instead. At this time, both summer residents and lovers of outings would be happy with a long weekend, and in general, in the warm season, there are much more opportunities for recreation.
This idea does not find official support. However, in accordance with the schedule for the transfer of the weekend this year, approved by the Government of the Russian Federation, the May vacation is comparable in duration to the January one. On May Day holidays in Russia there will be five days, on Victory Day - four.
Weekend transfers to the first days of May in 2019
May 1 in Russia has been the "red day of the calendar" for over a hundred years - from the very beginning of the Soviet era, since 1918. At first, the holiday celebrated on this date was called the "International Day", then it received the official name "International Workers' Day", now in Russia on the first day of May, the Day of Spring and Labor is celebrated.
In 2019, May 1 fell on Wednesday. However, two more weekends were added to this day, which coincided with the holiday dates of January. The result is a five-day rest period:
- May 1, Wednesday - public holiday, official day off;
- 2nd, Thursday - an additional day of rest for Saturday, January 5 (officially postponed by the decree of the Government of the Russian Federation);
- 3rd, Friday - another day off instead of Sunday 6 January (also an official postponement);
- May 4-5, Saturday-Sunday - regular days off.
At the same time, the last day of April (Tuesday, 30th day) will be short - the duration of the working day on the eve of the holiday is officially reduced by an hour.
However, those who work or study on a six-day basis, before planning trips or other events not the first in May, should bear in mind that the second and fourth days are "Saturday rest", and these days may turn out to be work or school days. In this case, by a separate order of the management, days off can be "regrouped", because such an alternation of days off and working days "one after one" cannot be called rational.
So parents of schoolchildren planning a family vacation for the first May holidays should check with the class teacher in advance which days of May will be school days and which will not.
How to relax on May 9 in 2019
May 9, 2019 - Thursday. At the same time, the day off from Saturday, February 23, which coincided with Defender of the Fatherland Day, was postponed to the Friday following Victory Day. Thus, a four-day mini-vacation is formed:
- May 9, Thursday - holiday;
- May 10, Friday - closed on Saturday 23.02:
- May 11-12 - Saturday and Sunday.
May 8th, ending a short three-day work period in May, is also a shortened working day.
For "six days", both May 10 and 11 will be regular working days, so they will have only one day of rest on Victory Day.
