Many holidays in Great Britain coincide with Russian ones. But the celebration is very different. On the example of several important dates of the British, one can understand the fundamental difference.
Instructions
Step 1
Christmas
Unlike Russia, England celebrates this holiday on December 25th. Just like ours, a Christmas tree is placed. It should be small in size and in the main room. The house is often decorated with holly, from which, according to legend, the crown of Jesus Christ was made. A mistletoe wreath is hung over the entrance to the room, under which it is customary to kiss. The British prefer a festive turkey as a treat. The next day, the holiday continues. Now friends and relatives should come to visit to exchange gifts. It is also necessary to congratulate all workers, for example, the postman and the garbage man.
Step 2
Easter
Holidays in the UK are always full of dedication. So, April Easter is celebrated here everywhere. As in Russia, it is customary in England to dye eggs. In addition, everyone on this day must visit the church, even if he did not even think of doing it all year before Easter. The holiday continues the next day, called "Memorial Monday".
Step 3
Queen's birthday
There cannot be such a holiday in Russia. But on April 21, all the British celebrate Elizabeth with a stormy feast. Fireworks are thundering everywhere, and the streets are turning into a parade procession. This British holiday is considered one of the most important of the year.
Step 4
1st of May
Of course, this day has nothing to do with the workers' holiday. For the British it is a holiday of spring. On May 1, the British leave the city, where sports competitions are held. At the end of the day, the May Queen is chosen among the young girls. Her prize is a wreath of spring flowers.
Step 5
Guy Fawkes Day
This day is associated with the "gunpowder conspiracy" that took place 400 ago against the royal family. Guy Fawkes was supposed to blow up the king's carriage, but he was captured at the last moment. This salvation is celebrated in modern England on November 5 through the burning of Fox, followed by a nightly fireworks display.
Step 6
Poppy Day
This holiday, which is celebrated in Great Britain, can be compared to ours on May 9th. Only here the celebration takes place in November and commemorates those who died in two worlds. This day got its name because of the frequent deaths of soldiers in the poppy fields. Everywhere people attend memorial ceremonies.
