Step 1
Choose tangerines or oranges from the store that are about the same size. Better to take small ones, they look neat. Make sure that there are no rotten areas, because such fruits will not last long. Rinse and dry thoroughly at home.

In the condiment section, get a bag of cloves, or rather a few. At home, sprinkle the bag on the table and select the beautiful, unbroken pieces of the carnation. You can wash them under running water and leave them on the table to dry.
Step 3
On a tangerine or orange, use an awl or a vegetable peeling knife to draw stripes, creating a simple pattern. As a pattern, you can draw a spiral across the entire surface of the fruit, or just a couple of stripes in the middle, or vertical lines from bottom to top. Do not press hard on the peel, just peel off the zest. The juice should not flow out of the tangerine.
Step 4
Then start sticking the carnation into the pattern at regular intervals. The seasoning will be absorbed by the citrus juice and will release its own odors. In some areas, it is possible not to use a carnation, but to leave the pattern white, without the zest. This is quite painstaking work, but not difficult. Entrust the decoration of tangerines to children, they will love it.

Pomanders can be scattered on the table in any order among the New Year's dishes. Or you can put them in a glass vase with spruce branches, and arrange the vases in different rooms.
