January is a traditional time for New Year and Christmas festivities in Russia. In recent years, many have already gotten used to the fact that New Year's holidays last more than a week. 2015 will be no exception.
January 2015, as usual, will be rich in days off: in total, this month will be 16 working days and 15 days off.
New Year Holidays
New Year's holidays, to which Russians have become so accustomed over the past few years, are also planned for 2015. It is assumed that they will last from 1 to 11 January, and some of these days will be days off due to the fact that they fall on Saturday and Sunday, some - due to the fact that they are public holidays, and another part - due to the transfer of weekends for workers. But December 31, preceding the holidays, will fall on Wednesday, so it will remain a working day.
So, January 1 and 7 in Russia are official public holidays, which celebrate the New Year and Christmas, respectively. The days from January 1 to January 8 represent the New Year holidays, which are also officially recognized as non-working days. This situation is recorded in article 112 of the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, registered in the code of laws of our country under number 197-FZ of December 30, 2001.
At the same time, there are two days off for the New Year holidays - January 3 and 4, which, according to the current legislation, should be postponed to other working days. As a result, one of these days, January 3, is postponed to Friday, January 9, and the other, January 4, is planned to be postponed to the May holidays. Now the possibility of postponing January 4 to May 4 is being considered in order to make the May holidays so beloved by Russians longer. Finally, January 10 and 11 are also Saturday and Sunday, and therefore will be days off.
At the same time, it should be borne in mind that such a distribution of weekends for the New Year and Christmas holidays in January 2015 is still only assumed: it is fixed in the draft resolution "On the transfer of days off in 2015", which the Ministry of Labor and Social Development presented at consideration by the Government of the Russian Federation. This decision will become final after the proposed resolution is approved.
Weekend
In addition to the holidays, non-working days associated with the New Year and Christmas, in January, Russians will have an ordinary weekend following a working week. So, the days off will be Saturday and Sunday, falling on January 17 and 18, as well as on January 24 and 25. Saturday, January 31st will also be a weekend in January; but the next Sunday after her will already refer to the February holidays.
