Day of Russia is a relatively new holiday that appeared already in the post-Soviet era. Nevertheless, the city authorities of Moscow are trying to make this day not just an additional weekend, but a good reason for organizing interesting and diverse events. This tradition was continued on June 12, 2012.
The ceremonial events began in the capital at noon. A festive concert continued in Tagansky Park until 9 pm. Later, a cultural program was also held in Izmailovsky Park. In addition to performances of musical groups, the audience could see a show program with elements of theater. And at 21 o'clock there was a fireworks display, so beloved by adults and children.
For residents of the southern district of Moscow, the holiday began in the Gorky Central Park of Culture and Leisure. It was dedicated to sports and an active lifestyle. The guests of the event were able to take part in sports relay races, as well as watch the broadcast of the match of the Russian team at the European football championship. Football was also broadcast at the Luzhniki stadium on large screens. Security measures have been heightened in the areas where the matches are shown to avoid confusion that could be caused by fans.
