Instructions

Step 1

Before Baptism, it is customary to bring cleanliness, this is done in order to sprinkle everything clean with the illuminated water brought from the church from the festive service in order to protect oneself from evil spirits. From the morning of January 19, believers go to church, and until lunchtime, festive services are held in the churches and the main sacrament of the holiday is the blessing of water.

Step 2

It is believed that holy water does not deteriorate, so it can be stored for a long time. The Orthodox put it in the Red Corner, next to the icons. It is also believed that a drop of a shrine sanctifies the sea. You can take ordinary, unconsecrated water and add a little Epiphany water there, thus consecrating all the water.

Step 3

On the eve of Epiphany, January 18, the church established a strict fast. At the same time, water in churches is consecrated, and on the holiday itself on January 19 - in reservoirs and various places where water is taken. It is believed that with baptismal water a person receives the grace of God by faith, which purifies his soul. According to custom, people plunge into the baptismal hole three times - "In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit."

Step 4

January 19 ends the Christmastide period, which lasts from Christmas. Among the people there is a tradition, which is not accepted by the church, of fortune telling on Christmastide.

Step 5

It is believed that Epiphany brings Epiphany frosts. In addition, various sayings and signs associated with this day appeared among the people: "Snow will blow up on Epiphany - bread will arrive", "Starry night on Epiphany - harvest for peas and berries."
