Since time immemorial, the painted Easter egg has been a symbol of the great Christian holiday of Easter - the day of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. There are several versions of why the chicken egg became the symbol of Easter.
Instructions
Step 1
One of the versions is associated with Mary Magdalene. According to biblical tradition, on the day of the Resurrection of Christ, Mary Magdalene presented an egg to the Emperor Tiberius with the words: "Christ is Risen!" The fact is that it was impossible to come to the court of the emperor without gifts. Rich people brought precious things and rich gifts, and the poor brought what they could. Mary had nothing for her soul, except for a passionate faith in God. Therefore, she took with her one chicken egg as a gift. Tiberius, however, declared her a liar, doubting that someone could rise from the dead and said that it was impossible - just as a white egg will never turn red. And after these words a miracle happened - the white egg began to turn red in front of everyone. Since then, red-colored eggs have become a symbol of Easter.
Step 2
Another version resembles the first, only it does not specify the identity of the woman with a basket of eggs, who, having learned that Jesus Christ had risen from the grave, began to tell everyone on the street about it. Someone, doubting this, told her that this could not be, and if so, then let the eggs in her basket turn red. And at that moment, the eggs turned brightly scarlet.
Step 3
For many centuries, Easter eggs have been painted exactly in red, which symbolizes the blood shed by Jesus on the cross. The sins of people are atoned for by His blood. The red egg is a kind of image of the birth of a new life: the shell is a coffin, inside which a new life is born. Making eggs red is very simple - you need to boil them along with the onion skins. For the holiday of Holy Easter, eggs are boiled on Maundy Thursday and laid in a cool place until Sunday.
Step 4
Nowadays, Easter eggs are dyed in all sorts of colors, thanks to a variety of harmless food colors. Artificial Easter eggs are also made - of stone, crystal, porcelain and papier-mâché. These eggs often resemble works of art - they are adorned with precious stones, gold and silver. Especially beautiful and precious masterpieces are kept in various museums.
Step 5
The tradition of painting eggs for Easter is popular to this day, because this is the brightest Christian holiday. People exchange colored eggs with the words "Christ is Risen!" - "Truly I am Risen!", After which they kiss three times. There are many delicious dishes prepared for Easter, but the main decoration of the table is undoubtedly colored eggs.
