On a spring day - April 28, 2019 - there will be Easter. One of the obligatory actions during preparation for this bright holiday is to collect the Easter basket. What products can be put into it, carried for consecration to a temple or church? And which should be discarded?
When preparing to celebrate Easter 2019, you definitely need to take the time and slowly collect the Easter basket. At its bottom, you need to lay a clean towel, on which you will then lay the selected products. You can add candles to the Easter basket, as well as live twigs of evergreen plants, for example, fir, spruce or myrtle. You will also need a second clean new towel, which should be used on top to cover the contents of the basket until the moment of consecration.
What foods can be holy for Easter
Which food should be in the Easter basket? If you answer this question in general, then the content should consist mainly of the food that was not consumed during Lent. Therefore, the moment looks extremely controversial whether it is possible to hallow salt, pepper, sugar, horseradish and some other spices / spices for Easter. It is believed that there is no completely strict ban on such ingredients in the holiday basket, but nevertheless it would be better to refrain from them.
Inside the Easter basket there may be:
- Easter cake (purchased or baked on your own);
- other sweet or savory pastries (preference is given to homemade);
- dyed eggs (eggs painted for Easter; eggs with red shells are in priority, however, eggs can be consecrated with stickers on the shell);
- cottage cheese Easter with dried fruits;
- red wine (Cahors);
- dairy products, homemade cheeses;
- meat snacks are also allowed to be consecrated on a bright holiday;
- fish and seafood are also generally acceptable.
When putting together your basket for Easter 2019, keep in mind that portions of food should be small. You need to take as much food as possible to eat at the festive table, meeting a bright holiday. It is strictly forbidden to throw away consecrated products, if there are surpluses, it is better to distribute them to those in need, leave them in a church or temple.
What cannot be consecrated at Easter
First, you need to understand that it is unacceptable to bring any material objects to the consecration on Easter. Whether it's icons, a cake knife, money, keys, jewelry and personal belongings - all of this is not worth filling the Easter basket with.
It is necessary to give up the food that was freely consumed during the time of Great Lent.
Alcoholic drinks should not be brought to church and sanctified on Easter, the only exception is the aforementioned wine. Even homemade liqueurs are prohibited.
Meat products with blood cannot be added to the holiday basket. What products are still not allowed to be holy for Easter 2019? It is undesirable to put vegetables, herbs, fruits in the Easter basket, even those that were grown with your own hands in a home greenhouse.
