Swedish Flag Day has been considered a national holiday in the country since 1983. It was based on two historical events: on June 6, 1523, Gustav Erickson became king of Sweden. And on June 6, 1809, a new Swedish Constitution was adopted in the country. Swedish Flag Day has traditionally been celebrated since 1916.

The main symbol of the event is considered to be a blue banner with a yellow cross from around the 16th century. According to a royal decree of 1569, such a cross was to be applied to battle banners. In all battles, soldiers proudly carried the flag of Sweden

Since 1916, a festive parade has been held at Stockholm's main stadium. On it, the king presented the flags of Sweden to communities and organizations. Later, it was decided to transfer the event to the Skansen Museum. Accordingly, the solemn features of June 6 were lost. The Swedish people do not like pomp, therefore they were not at all opposed to the fact that June 6 began to be celebrated modestly and in a family way.
Step 3
Only in 1983, June 6 was declared the National Day of Sweden. Despite this, he remains a worker, which perfectly shows the character of the country's inhabitants - restrained and indifferent to identities.
Step 4
The speeches of the top officials and the honoring of the Swedish flag are now held in the evenings, when people have returned to work and can sit down in front of the TV screens or take to the main streets.
Step 5
On June 6, the whole country is painted in blue and yellow colors. On plots, houses and even balconies, panels develop. The Swedes are overwhelmed with pride, which fully compensates for their restraint.

Arriving in Sweden in early June, you will be disappointed if you have drawn yourself a picture of vanity and feast in advance. Take a walk along cute European streets, look into the faces of this proud people, who, even on their own holidays, continue to work, only after decorating their house with paraphernalia in advance. Of course, the inner atmosphere of the city on June 6 will be different from all other days, but nothing more.
