The Russian state preserves the memory of various events that took place in the history of the Russian people. Some memorable dates that have had a significant impact on the development of the country are marked in red on the calendar. These are public holidays and are declared as weekends.
One of the main, but at the same time one of the newest holidays is celebrated in the Russian Federation in mid-June. The twelfth of the first summer month is the red day of the calendar. Day of Russia, popularly called the Day of Independence, has been celebrated since 2002.
On this particular day in 1990, Russia became a sovereign state on the basis of the Declaration. From that day on, the renewal of Russian statehood began. The main goal of the document was to ensure a decent life for every person.
Exactly one year later, Boris Yeltsin won the elections and became the head of government. In June 1992, the holiday was called the Day of State Sovereignty of the Russian Federation. In 1998, at the initiative of the head of state, it was decided to rename it the Day of Russia.
To the delight of many Russians, this holiday has been declared a day off. In his honor, events are held in all parts of the country - in squares, in museums, in parks. Also, performances of creative teams, brass bands are carried out, sports competitions, theater festivals are held. On this day, the awards are presented in the Kremlin Palace. Each year the celebration ends with a grand fireworks display.
Every year this holiday becomes more patriotic, massive and is a symbol of the unification of Russians.
