One of the largest humanitarian communities in the world is the International Red Cross, Red Crescent Movement. Its purpose is to protect the health and lives of people, alleviate human suffering, defend human dignity, in particular in the countries of the Middle East and during armed conflicts.
On May 8, humanity celebrates the International Day of the Red Cross, Red Crescent. This event is held on the birthday of the founder of the movement, Jean-Henri Dunant, which brought together all the volunteers who helped the wounded on the battlefields in the 19th century.
In 1863, Dunant founded the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent (ICRC), which received its official name only in 1928. This movement is not a single whole. It includes 187 national societies, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). Each movement has its own legal status and performs its functions, but the fundamental principles are the same for all organizations.
In Russia, during the celebration of the International Day of the ICRC, and in honor of the 145th anniversary of the Russian Red Cross, Red Crescent, held on May 15, the traditional action "Spring Month of Kindness" was held, including helping disabled children, single-parent families and large families, holding charitable concerts etc.
To mark the anniversary of the ICRC, Red Cross employees laid a commemorative "Alley of the Russian Red Cross" (with seedlings of ornamental shrubs and trees). The alley was planted not far from the Akademicheskaya metro station. The action was attended by representatives of the ICRC and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. All participants of the event received souvenir ribbons and special literature.
FSUE Publishing and Trade Center Marka in honor of the 145th anniversary of the ICRC in Russia issued a postal envelope “Russian Red Cross 145 years. At the service of mercy and humanism. " Such cooperation between the Russian ICRC and the publishing center "Marka" is an effective and massive "Red Cross" propaganda of the ideas of humanism and mercy.
