The Chelsea Flower Show, an exhibition of flowers and landscape design, is held annually in the UK. In 2012, it took place from 22 to 26 May and was timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
The British say that "summer will not start until the Chelsea Flower Show", the most prestigious and respected flower show, has been held annually since 1862. This grand event brings together outstanding flower growers from Great Britain and the world. This year, about 600 professionals have received invitations.
Participation in the show is very honorable. This is evidenced by the strict preliminary selection of all possible applicants, which was carried out by a special commission for a whole year. According to the ITAR-TASS news agency, a garden project created by people with disabilities from a boarding school in Hampshire received a gold medal at the exhibition at the last flower extravaganza.
What could be seen at the 2012 Chelsea Flower Show? Firstly, the latest innovations in the field of breeding, scientific advances, as well as current trends in the field of landscape architecture and, of course, a great variety of homesteads and roof gardens. Secondly, the participants of the show demonstrated their skills and imagination in competitions, for example, in creating huge chandeliers from flowers.
The last exhibition was of particular importance also because it was dedicated to the "diamond" anniversary of the reign of the Queen of Great Britain. Without changing tradition, she attended the Chelsea Flower Show this time too. Honoring such an honorable date, experts have bred new varieties of flowers, for example, roses "Royal Jubilee" and "Jubilee of the Queen". Another topical work was a flower bed, exactly like a postage stamp depicting Elizabeth II.
According to preliminary estimates, the exhibition was attended by more than 150 thousand people, among whom were not only specialists in the field of floristry and floriculture, but also politicians, businessmen, as well as celebrities and numerous tourists from different parts of the world.
