At the end of May 2012, the second regional jazz music festival was held in the Kuban. Groups from Russia, Ukraine, the United States of America took part in it.
The cultural project-festival "Kuban Plays Jazz" was organized in 2011 and brought together the best jazz bands of the Krasnodar Territory. In 2012, it was decided to expand the geography of the participants. The program, which lasted several days in May, was opened by the famous Krasnodar municipal Big Band named after I. Georgy Garanyan under the direction of Vitaly Vladimirov with his spectacular show "Jazz in Russian". In addition to the traditional repertoire, the jazz musicians presented to the public several compositions performed together with guest "stars" - vocalist Andromeda Turre and trombonist Steve Turre from the USA.
Father and daughter Turre are known for their collaboration with Ray Charles and Woody Allen, they play Latin jazz, and folklore motives of their native Mexico can be traced in their work. Steve is considered one of the leading jazz trombonists in the world, he created his own trombone school, which still teaches a special manner of playing. He also plays on seashells - a musical instrument consisting of two concave shell plates. Andromeda is not inferior to her father in abilities: she is the owner of the prestigious Grammy award, a member of the legendary rock band Aerosmith.
The well-known Kiev group ManSound, recognized in 2005 as the best jazz group in Ukraine, also took part in the festival. The male sixtet ManSound is a regular participant and laureate of international competitions and a welcome guest throughout Europe. The group's repertoire includes classics by George Gershwin, George Benson, The Beatles, gospel songs - African evangelical songs, as well as variations on the theme of Slavic folklore.
The three-day Kuban jazz marathon was also supported by numerous local performers: the State Orchestra of Folk Instruments "Virtuosi of the Kuban", the Kuban Brass Orchestra. Also among the participants of "Kuban Plays Jazz" - a jazz orchestra of the village of the Tula Republic of Adygea, jazz bands from Anapa, Gelendzhik, Krasnodar, Novorossiysk, and other regions of Russia.
