June 25 is a day rich in holidays and significant dates. First of all, it is the Day of Friendship and Unity of the Slavs and the Day of the Sailor. In addition, the countries of the former Yugoslavia gained independence on this day. Name days on the 25th are celebrated by Anna, Maria, Ivan, Arseny and Stepan.
Sailor's day
June 25 is a professional holiday for those who have linked their lives with the sea, the Day of the Seafarer (also known as the Day of the Seafarer). The commemorative date was established quite recently, only in 2010, by Resolution No. 19, signed by the member states of the International Maritime Organization at a conference in Manila.
The establishment of the holiday grew out of the need to draw attention to the work of the merchant seamen, who, according to statistics, carry out up to 80 percent of all world trade.
There are 1.5 million professionals in the world who are somehow connected with the sea, and their contribution to the economy can hardly be overestimated.
Day of friendship and unity of the Slavs
June 25 is an important date for 270 million Slavs - the Day of Friendship and Unity. The holiday was created in the 90s of the XX century with the aim of preserving the cultural heritage and historical memory of the fraternal peoples. It all started with the signing by Russia and Belarus of agreements on mutual cooperation on unequal terms. The impetus for the establishment of a significant date was the collapse of the USSR, when many independent states were formed on its former territory, and there was a need to rethink and establish partnerships in the changed realities.
Today, the Day of Friendship and Unity is celebrated with the greatest enthusiasm by Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians.
Statehood Day in Slovenia and Croatia
On June 25, 1991, Slovenia and Croatia seceded from Yugoslavia. Since then, every year on this day, Slovenes and Croats celebrate the Day of Statehood (not to be confused with Independence Day). In both countries, this day is a public holiday accompanied by solemn events.
Day of the Augsburg Confession
June 25 is an important Lutheran holiday - the Day of the Augsburg Faith. The memorable date is associated with the events of 1955, when Protestantism in Germany finally won the right to exist. The Augsburg denomination refers to the main provisions of the faith of the early Lutherans, compiled by Martin Luther's associate, theologian Philip Melanchthon in 1530. In the period from 1946 to 1947, an irreconcilable war was going on between Catholics and Protestants, which was called the Schmalkalden War and ended with the victory of the Catholics. However, on September 25, 1955, the Augsburg Religious Peace was concluded between Charles V and the rulers of the Protestant lands, which legalized Lutheranism.
