Programmer's Day is one of the youngest holidays in Russia. It was approved in 2009 and is celebrated at 256 (the number of values that can be expressed in one byte) day of the year. In normal years, it falls on September 13, in leap years - on 12.
Like any holiday, Programmer's Day involves a variety of events. Every year in each city dozens of festivals, seminars, parties are held, timed to this event. Sometimes the imagination of IT workers is simply amazing.
For example, one of the libraries in the city of Yekaterinburg annually organizes computer-related holidays for children. Contests are held, such as throwing CDs, fighting on keyboards, running with the legs tied with a wire, and so on. This is how the library workers try to involve children who love computers in sports.
In Yekaterinburg, in 2011, in honor of the Programmer's Day, a bike ride was organized on Lake Shartash.
In 2010, in honor of the holiday, Microsoft organized the broadcast of the Patterns & Practices Summit, a landmark event for all IT workers. At the summit, design patterns and architectural scenarios were widely presented by leading experts from Microsoft, a company whose experience, in fact, is the cumulative experience of the entire industry.
Scientific conferences are held in many cities, where scientists and young specialists in the field of programming speak. For example, in 2011 UlSTU (Ulyanovsk) hosted a conference and informal communication with specialists from the city's leading IT companies. In addition, students had the opportunity to listen to lectures by professional IT specialists on a variety of topics.
In addition, clubs in many cities organize parties on this day for those who are in one way or another connected with programming.
Programmers make an invaluable contribution to people's daily lives. The fruits of their labors are in everything - from mobile phones to laptops, tablets and other gadgets. Therefore, if there are IT specialists among your friends, do not forget to congratulate them on September 12th.
