According to the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 549, the Day of the Tankman is celebrated on the second Sunday of September in honor of the great merits of the mechanized and armored forces during the Great Patriotic War. On this day, various thematic events are held throughout Russia.
The first decree on the celebration of the Tankman's Day was issued by the government at the end of the 40s of the last century. In 1944, on the second Sunday of September, tank forces during the Great Patriotic War managed to make a breakthrough in the enemy's defense and stop the enemy's offensive.
In 2012, festive events are planned in Izhevsk. Celebration of the Day of the Tankman will begin on September 9 at 10:00 in the park at the "Palace of Children's Art of Izhevsk". The program of the event includes congratulations to the veterans, the general laying of bouquets at the IS-3 tank, as well as a concert program with the participation of pupils of the "Palace of Children's Creativity". Also in this event will be attended by activists from the public organization of veterans "Combat Brotherhood".
