Brisbane, the capital of the Australian state of Queensland, attracts art lovers every September. A famous art festival is taking place there. For three weeks, the streets, squares, embankments, clubs, theaters and museums of Brisbane and the suburbs become venues for theatrical performances, concerts, circus performances, film screenings and art exhibitions.
Brisbane is Australia's third largest city. Every September it hosts the popular art festival (Brisbane Festival), which attracts almost 2 million people.
The 1996 festival was promoted by the City Council and the Queensland State Government. It evolved from the Brinsbane Warana Festival, which was first held in 1961 under the slogan "entertainment for the people."
From 1996 to 2009, the Brisbane Festival was held every two years. During this time, it has developed into one of the respected and renowned international art festivals. In 2009, it was merged with Riverfestival and made an annual event.
The festival opens with a grandiose fireworks show “Riverfire”. It starts at 19.00 and lasts half an hour. Those wishing to watch this musical and pyrotechnic performance gather by the river (the venue of the show) in advance to take the best seats.
The festival lasts three weeks, during which Brinsbane and the suburbs turn into a large venue for various art events: concerts, performances, openings, circus performances, etc.
The festival attracts musicians, painters, composers, artists from all over the world. Plasma screens in the city show retrospectives of films by famous directors, performances by circus performers and musicians take place on the streets, opera and ballet performances, as well as performances by drama troupes, take place on the stage. The Gallery of Contemporary Art hosts multimedia performances.
The dates of the Brisbane Art Festival in 2012 are from 8 to 29 September. During this time, those who came to the capital of Queensland could attend night parties in the "Mirror Ball" and cabaret, visit the performance of the famous rock singer Lana Lane, circus shows, concerts of classical and modern music, exhibitions and performances.
The Brisbane Festival is intended for a wide audience and includes both paid and free events.
