Each of us has to give or receive gifts from time to time. There are many reasons for this: annual traditional holidays, birthdays of relatives and friends, weddings, anniversaries. There is a whole set of rules about how to correctly accept a gift, according to all the conventions of etiquette. But the ability to approach with taste to the choice of the little thing that you are going to present to another person can also be called art.

Having mastered a few of the simplest rules that you need to follow when choosing gifts, you will avoid many awkward situations.

So, what you need to remember when going to the store for a gift:

1. Do not give very expensive gifts to colleagues, friends of your friends. That is, to those people who are not part of your closest social circle. Expensive gifts will look vulgar and inappropriate. The best present in this case is a bouquet or a basket of flowers. Such a gift will delight both sexes equally.

2. Men should not give their ladies kitchen utensils. Unless, of course, the wife herself asked for it. Giving his wife another frying pan or saucepan, the man seems to be hinting that the place of the faithful is exclusively in the kitchen.

3. It is also not customary to give ladies items of clothing and, moreover, underwear. Only very close people can afford such a gift.

4. Cosmetics and perfumes are very often items that are presented as a gift to girlfriends, loved ones, wives. If you do not know the tastes of the person to whom you are going to give the perfume, then it is better to refrain from such a gift.

5. It is believed that you cannot give your loved ones and friends watches of any caliber: wrist, wall, pocket, alarm clocks, etc. It is not known for certain where this custom came from, but giving a watch often leads to separation. There are many examples of this. Moreover, parting is foreshadowed by presented images of watches, for example, in a picture or a postcard.

What can you give? Research and polls show that 80% of people are not entirely happy with the gifts they receive on various special occasions. Therefore, you should ask loved ones in advance what they would like to receive as a presentation. Perhaps, instead of expensive jewelry, your wife will want to see a paid annual subscription to a fitness club in a gift box. And a man will be pleased with some kind of novelty of electronics, instead of another set of perfumery.

For official gifts and presentations to unfamiliar people, it is better to choose universal and democratic items: flowers, souvenirs, inexpensive paintings or decorative panels. Flowers can be ordered in the store and sent to the hero of the occasion by courier. In this case, do not forget to include in such a gift a small postcard with a congratulation and your name, so that the recipient knows who he is receiving the bouquet from.
