Total globalization, the availability of any information, the possibilities of the virtual world dull the human ability to distinguish between truth and falsehood, real, “living” and artificial, “dead”. All true values and important issues are hidden under the tinsel of imposed priorities. Young artists, united under the tinsel sun, are trying to find in themselves and in this world that real thing that is really important and necessary for all mankind.
On July 11, 2012, the opening of the III International Biennale for Young Art took place in Moscow. Catherine Becker became the main curator of the Biennale. The curator decided to reduce the number of participants in the main project to 80 authors. Catherine Becker explained this innovation by the fact that the spectator is an important component of the artistic process.
The participants in the main project are representatives of different countries and cultures, but they are united by the problem of the artist's place and his position in the modern world. This very idea is contained in the title of the main project - "Under the tinsel sun". The Biennale also invites visitors to get acquainted with various styles and methods of young art.
Exhibits of the main project are located in the Central House of Artists, the Muzeon Park of Arts and the Central Park of Culture and Leisure named after M. Gorky. The end of the exhibition of the main project is scheduled for August 10, 2012.
Russia is represented by the works of artists: Arseny Zhilyaev (project "Time Works for Communism" 2010), Anna Titova, Alexei Vasiliev ("Extra Chair" 2011); photographer Anastasia Khoroshilova (fragment of the "Russians" project - color photography) and others.
The second in a row, but not in importance and interestingness of works, is the strategic project "Unfinished Analysis". Another wonderful woman, art critic Elena Selina, became its curator. In this project are invited those artists who, for some reason, did not get “Under the Sun from Tinsel”.
Exhibits of the Unfinished Analysis project are located at two sites: the National Center for Contemporary Art and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art. It began its work on July 12, and will end on August 12 at the NCCA and on August 19 at the MMOMA.
Very interesting works within the framework of this project were presented by the art group ZIP (Utopia. 2011. Acrylic, wood, paper, plasticine), Misha Most (Constitution 2011-2012. Graffiti), Antonello Ghezzi (installation Caution, door! ". 2012), Frenchwoman Cecile Ibarra (" 250 blue collars ". 2010. Installation).
In order to draw public attention to the problems raised by young curators, Katrina Becker has created a special program. 17 projects that are included in it will be shown at various venues in the city.
The III Biennale for Young Art is accompanied by a parallel program that combines 2 festivals (one dedicated to street art and the second to cinema) and 9 projects that are consonant with the themes of the biennale.
