The presence of a huge number of rivers, seas, lakes on the territory of Russia has led to widespread fishing in our country. From time immemorial, fishing has been one of the main occupations of the Russian people. Gradually, special groups of people were formed - professional fishermen who supplied cities and villages with delicious fish.
Fishing, which includes the production of not only sea and river fish, but also other living creatures living in the aquatic environment, is one of the leading industries in Russia and constitutes the most important export item. For industrial purposes, fishing is carried out to provide it to the population, as well as for the production of fish oil.
For the first time, the fisherman's holiday was officially celebrated in the 20s of the last century. Today Fisherman's Day in Russia is celebrated every second Sunday in July. This date was officially established by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated October 1, 1980.
In the Soviet Union, this day was widely celebrated throughout the country as a great professional and family holiday. On the squares of cities and small settlements, mass festivities were held, sports competitions and large costume performances were held at the stadiums.
Today, the fisherman's holiday is celebrated in our country no less widely, especially in large coastal cities such as Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Vladivostok, Astrakhan, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, etc. On this day, Russian fishermen gather on the banks of rivers, lakes, seas and other bodies of water for active fishing and demonstration of their skills. On the day of the fisherman, competitions of amateur and professional fishing teams are traditionally held. Moreover, the winners are awarded in a wide variety of nominations: the largest catch, the largest and smallest fish, the most diverse composition of the catch, etc.
On the day of the fisherman, you can congratulate everyone who has linked their lives with fishing - employees of environmental protection inspectorates, fish farmers, ichthyologists, employees of special fish processing enterprises, as well as friends and acquaintances who are fond of amateur fishing.
