Step 1

In 1968, the Day of the Fisherman was approved by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, and its appearance was facilitated by the large development of fishing. Most amateur anglers then began to actively fight against illegal fishing. For many, fishing has become a kind of rest and enjoyable pastime. A large number of new fishermen appeared, whole societies and public organizations began to form.

Step 2

In many regions of the Soviet Union, fishing was and remains one of the leading sectors of the economy. Almost the entire population of various regions was engaged in industrial fishing, and this profession has become the most demanded and popular. Therefore, it was decided to create a holiday that would unite both labor collectives and ordinary people engaged in fishing at an amateur level. Every second Sunday in July was not chosen in vain - at that time it was possible to fish throughout the country, even in its very north.

Step 3

In many regions on this day sports fishing competitions are held, competitions of fishing brigades are organized. The winners are evaluated in a variety of nominations. They are awarded, for example, “for the largest number of caught fish”, “for the largest fish in terms of size”, “for the smallest fish in size”, but there are other nominations as well.

Step 4

Competitions are held in open water, anglers flock to rivers, lakes and other bodies of water, where fish really live and there is a chance to catch a rich catch. Also on this day, those who have linked their lives with fishing, with fish breeding and breeding are honored. At the holiday, they give valuable gifts, some things or objects that will later remind of this celebration. During the years of the Soviet Union, they also gave various postcards, pennants, badges, rolling banners and much more. In today's Russia, they give mainly sums of money.

Step 5

Earlier, Fisherman's Day was celebrated in other union republics, and not only in Russia. He enjoyed immense popularity in Ukraine and the Baltics. In the seaside towns it was not only a professional holiday, but also a family one. And the festivities took place in stadiums and squares. Artists gave concerts, costumed performances were held. On this day, the best fishermen were honored.

Step 6

In a city like Murmansk, Fisherman's Day was celebrated along with City Day. In Crimea, this holiday was also very popular with local residents and guests of the peninsula. By the way, this professional holiday has been celebrated in Ukraine since 1995, and it was legalized by the presidential decree. Undoubtedly, this Day of the Fisherman unites all people, and not only amateurs and professionals of this business. This holiday does not limit people in any way by age, interests or gender, or by any other parameters. Anyone can fish, the main thing is to have a good mood, good gear and patience.
