The founder of the monastery, the holy noble Prince Daniel, the son of Alexander Nevsky, built the shrine in the 13th century. Today, on the site of the Novospassky Monastery, there is the Danilovsky Monastery, which replaced the temple, which, at the behest of Prince John Kalita in 1328, was transferred to the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord on the Kremlin Borovitsky Hill.
