Russian Santa Claus and American Santa Claus are very similar to each other. However, it is almost impossible to confuse them. In addition to the fact that Santa and Santa Claus have different costumes and vehicles, Santa Claus comes to the children accompanied by his granddaughter, the Snow Maiden. But Santa Claus has no such companion.
Instructions
Step 1
Unlike Santa Claus, Santa Claus is not a New Year, but a Christmas character. His prototype is considered to be St. Nicholas of Mirliki, who always tried to help poor people and even tossed them bags of money. Real popularity came to Santa Claus in 1823, when Clement Clark Moore's poem "The Night Before Christmas, or the Visit of St. Nicholas" was published. It told about how Santa Claus comes to the house on Christmas night and leaves wonderful gifts for children and adults.
Step 2
The famous American artist Thomas Nast became another creator of the Santa image. There is a version that Nast portrayed himself in the guise of his Christmas grandfather. The fact is that the artist was overweight and used to wearing a wide beard. He also thought out the biography of Santa Claus. It was Nast who told that Santa lives at the North Pole, takes into account the good and bad deeds of children and delivers them gifts in a sleigh pulled by reindeer. The idea of giving him a companion did not occur to anyone.
Step 3
In the pre-Christmas period, Santa Claus is faced with a lot of trouble. It would be very difficult for him to cope with all the affairs alone. But it turns out that Santa has a lot of helpers. Christmas elves help him: they answer letters from children, pack gifts, clean up the house. Santa Claus also has a team of reindeer, endowed with the ability to move not only on the ground, but also through the air. There were originally 8 deer, and they came from the same poem by Clement Clark Moore.
Step 4
In 1939, poet Robert L. May wrote a poem starring the ninth deer, Rudolph. He had a distinctive feature - a red nose, glowing in the dark. Because of this, other reindeer constantly mocked Rudolph. But one Christmas, there was a heavy fog. It is not known how Santa could have found children at home who were eagerly awaiting gifts, if not for Rudolph's amazing nose, which illuminated his path like a flashlight. Since then, Rudolph not only got rid of ridicule, but also led a reindeer team.
Step 5
So Santa Claus does not miss the Snow Maiden at all. In addition, unlike Santa Claus, who always solemnly enters houses through the front door, Santa gives gifts secretly, under cover of night, entering the house through the chimney. It is difficult to imagine how he would climb through the chimney with the Snow Maiden. By the way, according to one of the versions, Santa has a wife, Mrs. Klaus, who helps him manage the household and manage the elves. So here it was not without a woman's hand.
