Since 2009, Russians have been celebrating a new holiday - the day of grandparents. The initiator of its creation was the Flower Bureau of Holland. The official date of the holiday - October 28, was not chosen by chance, according to the ancient Slavic tradition, it was at this time that special rituals of honoring the family and ancestors were carried out.
The tradition of honoring grandparents has existed all over the world since ancient times. Canadians celebrate this day in September. Usually the whole family gathers at one table and thanks the older generation for their care, love and patience. Grandchildren give gifts to grandparents and recite poetry.
For Italians, this holiday symbolically coincides with the Catholic day of guardian angels. After all, grandmothers and grandfathers are true keepers of family traditions and make a great contribution to strengthening the family and connecting generations.
In Poland, grandmother's day is celebrated on January 21, and grandfather's day is on January 22. On these holidays, children and grandchildren visit their relatives, give them flowers and small gifts as a sign of respect. Grandmothers treat their grandchildren to pies with the most intricate fillings, and grandfathers go with their children for a walk in the park or forest.
In France, this holiday is celebrated on the first Sunday in March. Grandmothers make joint trips with their grandchildren, because it is on this day that travel companies offer them special free bus trips around the country. Restaurants create a special menu for them, and shops open separate sections where grandmothers can buy goods at a discount.
Nowadays, just like many centuries ago, grandparents play a colossal role in the formation of a young family, the development and education of the younger generation. Wise experienced grandfathers pass on the accumulated knowledge to their grandchildren, and attentive grandmothers surround them with care and warm them. On this day, it is customary to thank the older generation for their work and patience, as well as to please with pleasant trifles and gifts. Small children can present their grandfather and grandmother with an interesting applique, drawing, collage made with their own hands, or collect a bouquet of autumn flowers for them. A wonderful surprise will be a song performed in their honor.
