The Day of the Rear Services of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation was established by the Order of the Ministry of Defense and has been celebrated since 1998 on the first day of the last summer month. The first of August is a professional holiday for those on whose shoulders lies the hard work of uninterrupted supply and maintenance of combat army units.
Logistics services are an integral part of the armed forces; without them, the normal functioning of combat units is impossible. The first appearance of such units took place in 1700, when Tsar Peter I issued a decree “On the management of all grain reserves of military men to Okolnich Yazykov, with his name to this part as General-Proviant”. It was then that the Provisions Order was established, the first independent supply service in charge of food supplies. And on August 1, 1941, the rear was made an independent branch of the armed forces - it was on this day that Joseph Stalin signed the Decree "On the Organization of the Main Directorate of the Rear Services of the Red Army."
Today, the rear includes a headquarters, 9 directorates, 3 services, command and control bodies, subunits and organizations of central subordination, rear structures of all types and branches of the Armed Forces, fleets and military districts, associations, formations, military units. This is a single well-coordinated mechanism that ensures uninterrupted supply of combat units of the Russian armed forces.
On this day, solemn formations are held in all units and subdivisions of the rear services, the commanders congratulate the personnel on their professional holiday. The most distinguished servicemen are awarded valuable gifts, many are awarded regular military ranks. Festive concerts are held, at which both famous artists and amateur musical groups perform.
In some divisions, photo exhibitions are held, documenting their entire difficult journey. Many parts of the home front trace their history back to the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. On August 1, the Minister of Defense traditionally congratulates all personnel and veterans of the rear services, noting their invaluable contribution to ensuring the country's security.
