Instructions
Step 1
The annual international festival "Imperial Gardens of Russia" has been held in St. Petersburg since 2008 and is now becoming more and more popular. Its participants - Russian and foreign landscape firms - present their compositions within the framework of the designated theme. The jury consists of international experts, famous Russian and foreign landscape designers and architects.
Step 2
The first festival was held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness The Princess of Kent. The participants presented works on their own project. Subsequent topics - "Labyrinth-Ornament-Symbol" - 2009, "French Garden on the Banks of the Neva" - 2010, "Italian Noon" - 2011.
Step 3
The 5th festival was dedicated to the 1150th anniversary of the birth of Russian statehood and the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War. The topic "Where does the Motherland begin …" was proposed. The contestants had to reflect it in their compositions through the history of the development of Russian gardens. This year, designers from Great Britain, France, Germany, Czech Republic, Belarus, Russian cities and museums - reserves of St. Petersburg took part in the festival. Several thematic sections were proposed - ancient Russia and the Russian fairy tale, noble estates, imperial residences. Most of the projects were collaborative.
Step 4
A large Russian-French project is dedicated to the first chief architect of St. Petersburg, Jean-Baptiste Alexander Leblond, who took part in the construction and decoration of the Summer Palace of Peter the Great, Peterhof and Strelna.
Step 5
The composition "Imperial Monograms" is a joint work of designers from Peterhof, Tsarskoye Selo, Gatchina, Pavlovsk and the Russian Museum. Using archival materials, they managed a flower garden in the form of the coat of arms of the Russian Empire, which was previously located in front of the building of the St. Petersburg Forestry Institute. It is planned that after the end of the festival it will be moved to its historical place. Museum-Estate "Maryino" presented a landscape composition "Hussar Ballad", dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Patriotic War.
Step 6
The out-of-competition program of the festival also turned out to be diverse - master classes in origami, paper plastics, pottery, a folk song concert, an evening of romance, and a brass band concert.
