Previously, the Day of the Languages of the Peoples of Kazakhstan was celebrated on September 21, but now, according to the decree of the President of the country, this holiday has been postponed to a more convenient day - every third Sunday in September. Since it is impossible to show all the achievements of numerous peoples living in the country in one day, festivals, weeks and months of languages are held.
Dozens of peoples live on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan, each of which has its own language, traditions and customs. The republic's policy is aimed at maintaining national characteristics; Uzbek, Tajik, Uyghur and Ukrainian schools operate. Eleven national languages are studied in these and other educational institutions of the country.
The festival of languages of the peoples of Kazakhstan, symbolizing harmony and unity between peoples, has become an annual tradition. Within the framework of this festival, competitions for knowledge of languages, concerts of masters of art, scientific conferences and round tables are held. The problems of the development of the state language are widely discussed not only among specialists, but also among ordinary people - the Ministry of Culture together with the Assembly of the Peoples of Kazakhstan is holding a nationwide telethon.
Since 2007, all office work in the republic has been translated into the state language. Now every Kazakhstani is obliged to master it perfectly, otherwise many opportunities are closed for him. Perhaps, for ease of use, the national alphabet will be transferred to the standard Latin font.
In 2012, a scientific and theoretical conference will be held dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Akhmet Baitursynov, the founder of linguistics in Kazakhstan. In addition, the Day of Slavic Writing, poetry evenings and other events are planned. The opening ceremony is attended by deputies of the Parliament, artists of the Kazakh Academic Music and Drama Theater and Philharmonic Society, representatives of the public.
Within the framework of the Day of Languages of the Peoples of Kazakhstan, concerts, competitions, seminars and round tables are held to help promote innovations in language policy, expand the scope of the Kazakh language. Public health organizations, schools, kindergartens, and collectives of city cultural institutions take part.
