Every year on the third Sunday of June, International Father's Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. Dads, together with mothers, help the baby to understand the world around him, see its best sides, come to the rescue in difficult situations, no matter how old the child is.
For the first time, they started talking about the establishment of this holiday at the beginning of the twentieth century in the United States of America. In 1910, during a church service dedicated to the memory of mothers, American Sonora Smart thought that her father and five other sisters had been raised because their mother died early. Deciding to thank her father and other men who raised their children alone, Sonora Smart turned to the local administration with a request to establish a new holiday. Local authorities wanted to hold celebrations on the birthday of William Smart - June 5, but there was not enough time for preparation, and the holiday was postponed to the next Sunday - June 19.
Father's Day took root in the city and soon became one of the most popular holidays in the country. In 1972, President R. Nixon declared it a national holiday, making it the third Sunday in June as its official date. Traditionally, during the annual celebrations, the state and ordinary citizens try to provide support to fathers with small incomes who raise their children on their own.
Following the USA, other states began to celebrate Father's Day. The first among them were Switzerland, Great Britain, Turkey, Argentina, the Netherlands, China. Father's Day is held annually in more than fifty different countries of the world. In Russia, International Father's Day is not yet included in the list of official holidays.
On Father's Day, it is customary to hold a variety of family and social celebrations dedicated to dads and their children. In religious organizations, special services are held in memory of deceased ancestors. According to the old tradition, on this day, living fathers are presented with red roses, and white flowers are laid on the graves of those who are not alive. This good holiday is intended to remind people once again how important it is to protect and respect parents, communicate with them, never leave them in difficult times.
