Ossetians are famous for noisy feasts, incendiary dances and explosive temperament. Like other peoples of the Caucasus, these mountaineers are known for their cult of the elders and adherence to ancient traditions. Traditional Ossetian holidays are not complete without songs and endless toasts. The same, however, as well as Ossetian weddings.
What to wear
Brides in Ossetia, as in former times, often choose traditional decorations. Now the outfit has changed somewhat under the influence of fashion, but before it was paid much more attention. The bride symbolized life itself and the world tree. Her position was emphasized by a fitted caftan, richly decorated with embroidery, intertwined with gold laces and buttons in the form of animals and birds. Patterns meant thrift, strength and fertility.
A traditional robe with flared sleeves was worn under the caftan, and a belt embroidered with gold was always adorned at the waist. In those days, chaste Ossetian women wore a corset that covered the whole body under the dress. He was pulled tight, and the ribbons were tied in intricate knots, which the groom had to try to untie the entire wedding night. Precisely to untie, since cut laces were considered a shame. In the morning, the corset was given to the seamstress who made it, and she determined whether the wedding night was right or wrong.
How to behave
The wedding ceremony itself was also spelled out inside and out. This routine is adhered to now. Matchmakers are sent to the bride's house three times. For the first time, representatives of the groom announce his serious intentions. In the second, a fidid (wedding agreement) is concluded. Matchmakers discuss the date of the celebration and the upcoming expenses. Well, for the third time, a small party is held, which also takes place in accordance with traditions. The bride's mother presents the guests with a cup, and they fill it with money and present all the bridesmaids with sweets. It is believed that if such a candy is put under the pillow, unmarried girls will definitely dream of their betrothed. The eldest in the bride's family makes a toast to the health of the young, the bride and groom exchange rings, and then dances are arranged.
On the wedding day, just before the registration at the registry office, the rings are removed and put on again during the wedding. A wedding dress, linen and jewelry are presented by the groom during a memorable feast. The wedding dress is chosen by the bride and paid by the groom.
What to gift
Jewelry is given by relatives from the groom's side. They usually buy gold. Everything that you have given must be worn. After the ceremony, the bride is dressed in a national costume and taken to her husband's house. She always touches the family hearth, and then a veil is raised with a special flag. Then the girl meets a new family, and each woman is given a spoonful of honey so that relations with them are smooth. Well, then the feast begins. Guests must make long toasts to the health of young people, to strong sons and to Ossetia, which has given the world such a wonderful tradition.
