Day of forest workers is one of the professional holidays that were established in the days of the USSR. On September 18, 1977, the Forest Legislation was adopted, and in 1980, Forest Workers' Day became an official holiday. Since then, it has been celebrated annually on the third Sunday in September.
The uniqueness of the Day of Forest Workers lies in the fact that it is celebrated not only by people whose profession is directly related to forestry, wood processing industry, etc., but also by those who simply love forests and protect nature. The third Sunday in September is the day when it is customary not only to congratulate foresters, forest guards, employees of pulp and paper enterprises, etc., but also to remind people of the importance of preserving and increasing natural resources.
A number of thematic events are held on Forest Workers Day. Many of them are educational in nature. For several days before and after the holiday, residents of large cities can listen to free lectures by ecologists, visit thematic exhibitions, sightseeing tours and master classes. Experienced specialists talk about everything related to forests, gardens and parks, and even give valuable advice to farmers and gardeners. Open lessons are held in schools on weekdays dedicated to the problem of deforestation and the need to respect nature. For kids who are not interested in lectures, funny contests, quizzes and games are organized.
On this holiday, environmental actions are also held directly related to forestry. Volunteers can take part in the collection of waste paper to save forests from deforestation, as well as plant their own trees in gardens, parks, etc. Further, work is carried out to clean up forests and parks from debris and other similar activities designed to instill a sense of responsibility for the preservation of natural resources.
The third Sunday in September is also the day when it is customary to congratulate forest workers, to name the best employees of enterprises related to forestry, to present them with certificates of honor, letters of thanks, gifts, etc. Corporate parties and concerts are also held on this holiday.
