Halloween is a holiday that until recently was celebrated mainly in the United States and English-speaking countries. Since the end of the 20th century, the tradition of celebrating Halloween has spread to other European countries. She also came to Russia, although debates about whether it is worth celebrating this holiday, alien to the country, are still ongoing.

Halloween, also called All Saints' Eve, is celebrated on the night of October 31 to November 1. The holiday has ancient traditions, the roots of which can be found in the pagan beliefs of the Celts who inhabited the territory of modern Ireland.

In different countries, Halloween is celebrated in completely different ways. For example, in the United States, sales of candy and fancy dress are skyrocketing ahead of Halloween. Children, dressed up as pumpkins, ghosts or witches, go from house to house, asking the traditional question: "A joke or a treat?" - and, as a rule, they receive sweets from the owners. In Europe, the main attributes of the holiday are often bread and water, with which people commemorate their deceased relatives.

It is interesting that in Ancient Russia there was also a holiday similar to Halloween. It was called Spirits Day and was celebrated on the first Monday after Trinity. The carnival procession, accompanied by an accordion and balalaika, went to the field, where the ceremony of farewell to spring took place.

In modern Russia, Halloween appeared not so long ago, so its popularity is not yet comparable to the popularity of the holiday in the West. However, he has already found quite a number of fans, among whom the youth predominates.

Many nightclubs hold holiday parties ahead of Halloween. The hall is decorated in the traditional colors of the holiday - black and orange. An obligatory attribute is the traditional pumpkin-shaped lanterns with carved eyes and mouth - the so-called "Jack the Lantern".

The entertainment program is usually based on performances of singers and musicians in the costumes of "demonic" characters, as well as various tricks associated with fire. The Russian Orthodox Church has an extremely negative attitude to the celebration of Halloween, believing that its rituals call people to cooperate with evil.
