Sparklers are firmly associated in our minds with the New Year. However, they can become a decoration for other holidays as well. True, they appear in stores almost exclusively in December. But you can make sparklers yourself.
It is necessary
- Aluminum powder
- Sulfur
- Ratio: 3 parts by weight of aluminum powder (dry silver paint) to 1 part of sulfur
- Laboratory balance with a set of weights
- Mixing utensils (any other than aluminum)
- Iron wire 1.5 - 2 mm thick
- Paste starch
- Small pot for paste
- Optional materials:
- Iron filings
- Writing paper
Instructions
Step 1
Boil the paste and let it cool. Measure out the required amount of sulfur and aluminum powder. 5 sparklers will require 15 g of aluminum powder and 5 g of sulfur. Mix the substances until smooth.
Step 2
Cut the wire into 20 cm pieces. Dip a piece of wire 2/3 of the length into the paste. Dip it in powder. Dry the sparkler for at least 10 minutes.
Step 3
Repeat the procedure 3-4 times until a layer of sufficient thickness is obtained on the wire. Leave the sparklers to dry for two days. Sparklers made according to this recipe are absolutely safe. They don't explode.
