On September 30, Abkhazia celebrates its independence day. This holiday was established after the end of the Georgian-Abkhaz war in 1993 and is being held on a large scale. September 30, 2012 will not be an exception.
The main festive celebrations dedicated to the independence of the republic will be held in its capital, the city of Sukhum. The events will begin in the morning with the traditional wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial complex dedicated to the soldiers who heroically fought for the freedom of their people. The memorial building is located in the Park of Battle Glory. The higher authorities of Abkhazia, representatives of parliament, members of national diasporas - Russians, Jews, Armenians, Greeks, Estonians, as well as youth representatives - schoolchildren and students will come here to lay wreaths.
Traditionally, the main festive events are held in Sukhum on the square in front of the government house, which is called "Freedom Square". It was here that the operation to liberate the Abkhaz capital ended, which determined the outcome of the war. Therefore, after the laying of wreaths, the action will move to Freedom Square, where they plan to hold a memorial meeting in honor of those killed during the Georgian-Abkhaz war, as well as a military parade. Various troops will take part in the parade: artillery, marines, rifle battalions, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, special forces and tankers.
After that, the leadership of the Republic of Abkhazia will arrange a reception for delegations from other countries who have come to congratulate the Abkhaz people on an important holiday for them. Citizens and guests of the city at this time can go to the embankment, where festivities and fairs will be held. In the evening, the event will continue at the Republican Stadium, where guests will be pleased with a festive concert with the participation of popular Abkhaz and Russian stars. The Independence Day of Abkhazia will end with festive fireworks.
The plans of the Abkhazian authorities are to postpone the holiday from September 30 to August 26 - the day when Russia recognized the independence of the republic. Perhaps in subsequent years, Independence Day will be held on a different date.
