If the Russians jokingly called the long New Year's weekend "winter holidays", then a series of May holidays can be safely called "spring holidays." Traditionally, Russians celebrate the days in early May on a grand scale: some - at city demonstrations, others - in summer cottages, and still others - in the open air with barbecue and other food.

In 2014, the May holidays will last for seven whole days. However, they will take place in two stages. This year's May weekend is somewhat shorter than in previous years. This is because earlier several holidays at once from New Year's holidays were postponed to May. In 2014, from January, it was decided to postpone only one holiday (January 4) to May (May 2).

Spring and Labor Day

In honor of Spring and Labor Day, Russians in 2014 will have a rest from 1 to 4 May. At the same time, the last working day before a series of holidays - April 30 - will be shortened by an hour, according to the Labor Code. It says that the day before the holiday can be shortened by an hour. However, not all employers follow this recommendation.

Victory Day

This great holiday in 2014 falls on Friday. This day is an official day off. In addition to May 9, the Russians will also rest on Saturday and Sunday, May 10 and 11. At the same time, the working day on May 8 will be shortened.

No rescheduling of the weekend in 2014 is planned, as the official weekend did not coincide with the holidays. All holidays this year fell on weekdays.

The Russians will work between the holidays for four days - May 5, 6, 7 and 8, inclusive. The first business day after the holiday season is Monday, May 12th. It will take place as usual, that is, without reducing the working time.
