World poetry day
Since 1999, World Poetry Day has been celebrated around the world. The holiday was established at the 30th session of the General Conference of UNESCO, and for the first time it was held in Paris, where the headquarters of the organization is located.
The idea of the holiday, according to its creators, is to form in the media a positive image of poetry as a modern and open form of art for all people, as well as to draw public attention to little-known publishers, authors, literary clubs.
It is believed that the earliest hymn poems were written in the 23rd century BC by the poetess-priestess En-hedu-Ana.
International Puppet Theater Day
Another holiday associated with art, celebrated on March 21st is the Day of the Dollmaker. It was established by the Iranian puppet theater director Jivad Zolfagariho in 2000 during the XVIII Congress of the International Union of Puppet Theater Workers in Magdeburg. Over the next two years, there were heated discussions about the date of the holiday. In 2003, on March 21, at last, the glorious tradition of the festival of puppeteers began.
International Day of Forests
March 21 is an extremely important date for both eco-activists and all nature lovers. On this day in 1971, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) established the International Day of Forests.
Up to 13 million hectares of forests are cut down in the world every year.
Forests occupy about one third of the land area and play an important role in the formation of the composition of the atmosphere and climate of the planet, preserve the fertility of soils and landscapes. In addition, they are home to most animal species. Due to a number of adverse factors, the area of forests around the world is steadily declining. Therefore, the key task of the International Day of Forests is to draw attention to the problems of forest ecosystems and inform the population about ways to protect and restore forests.
International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination
March 21 is an extremely important date, opening the Week of Solidarity with Nations Fighting Against Racism. On this day, by the decision of the UN General Assembly, the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is annually celebrated. The landmark date is chosen to commemorate the events of 1960, when during a peaceful demonstration against apartheid in South Africa, the police opened fire and killed 69 people. Already in 1966, the United Nations proclaimed the designated holiday, designed to attract the international community to strengthen the struggle for fundamental human rights.
