Who knows a lot about the holidays, it's definitely the Spaniards. But no one will name how many of them there are. Even the king, and he, it would seem, knows the traditions of his country best of all - after all, he must preserve them. Secular and religious, national and regional, holidays of big cities and small authentic villages, quarters and streets - there are countless holidays in Spain!
Instructions
Step 1
In Spain, the holidays have no beginning or end, because they almost never end. Even the traditional first day of the new year is January 1, for the Spaniards it is only the middle of the Christmas time, which begins on December 25 and ends with the Catholic Epiphany on January 6. Then a short break follows and everything starts anew. Of the thousands of state, secular and Catholic festivals, four cannot but be singled out - the most colorful, perhaps.
Step 2
From about mid-February to early March, the time for carnivals begins. Each province independently, based on its own traditions, appoints the time of their holding. The most numerous carnivals usually take place on the Canary Islands in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and in the city of Cadiz in Andalusia.
Step 3
Carnivals in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Cadiz are very similar to the Venetian ones, and their timing is the same: within 10 days from the beginning of the last week of February. Guests and hosts of the carnival wear mysterious and funny masks, stylized costumes, attend processions, balls and all kinds of theatrical performances. Anonymity is the main condition of ancient carnival festivals, allowing everyone to behave frivolously, uninhibited and risky.
Step 4
And here are two more unique festivals of the country of sparkling temperament: the wine festival in Alecanta and the Tomatina Day in the town of Bunol, in Valencia. Both holidays take place in late August - early September. Rather, Tomatina, the famous tomato massacre, when 125 tons of tomatoes are launched into battle, has an exact day and time: the last Wednesday of August from 11 am to 11 pm. But this does not mean that Tomatino is celebrated for just one day. The festival continues throughout the week.
Step 5
If you want to turn your life into one continuous holiday, you have a direct path to August Spain: start with Tomatino week, take part in the tomato massacre, attend performances by authentic musicians and dancers, sing and dance with all Buñol, and then go to Alecanta, not forgetting to bring new white clothes with you.
Step 6
The Wine Festival in Alecanta is something unimaginable: wine pours not in liters, but in rivers, waterfalls and fountains of wine, the best young and aged wine, rush down. And it's all completely free. More than four hundred tons of wine are absorbed annually by the blessed land of Valencia. But! Only those who are dressed in snow-white and white can be admitted to this holiday of life - it's a tradition, what can you do here.
Step 7
An extremely short list of Spanish holidays looks like this: in January-February - New Year, the holiday of the Magi, a holiday in the city of Palma de Mallorca, a holiday in the city of San Sebastian, Carnival in Tenerife, a holiday in the city of Cuenca, a holiday of the Moors and Christians in Valencia, a walk in honor of Saint Agueda in Segovia, Carnival in Cantabria, Murcia, Cadiz, Salamanca, Caceres.
