A wedding is one of the most important events in a person's life. And, of course, I want close people to be close at this moment, to support and help in everything. The most important figures after the bride and groom are the witnesses.

Why do we need wedding witnesses

Since ancient times in Russia, the obligatory presence of witnesses (boyfriends and boyfriends) at the wedding has been instituted. They performed both an official role - they signed the marriage registration certificates (without this, the marriage was not considered registered), and participated in its organization (matchmaking, ransom, holding a feast, etc.).

But recently, the importance of witnesses has diminished: their presence at the wedding is not mandatory, the paintings are no longer needed. Therefore, if a marriage is simply registered without a celebration, then most often witnesses are not taken. But if a sufficiently large-scale event is planned further, then it is better to have a couple of close people to support at this important moment. Of course, you can hire special people (toastmaster, etc.), but little things in the form of helping the bride to correct her appearance, moral support are very important.

Who can be taken as witnesses

Who is better to take as witnesses? Usually at the wedding there is a witness on the part of the bride (her close person) and a witness on the part of the groom. There are no rules or laws on this issue. It can be absolutely any people - relatives, friends, acquaintances, colleagues.

There are different signs on how to choose witnesses. But they all do not have any essential basis and are nothing more than legends, repeatedly rephrased.

For example, you cannot take a married couple as a witness, because they will divorce soon after the wedding (they will give their happiness to the young). You cannot be married to any of the witnesses, because this also leads to divorce. You cannot be divorced, because this will provoke a divorce in young people. All this is not supported by anything and belongs to the same category of signs, such as: black cat, empty buckets, etc. There is an opinion that there has been a sign of married witnesses since the days of Russia, when they were responsible for the young and were punished with a ruble during their divorce. And then there is embellishment.

If we proceed from more practical advice, then it is better to choose as witnesses either unmarried people (maybe lovers) or a happy married couple. But this is more so that due to various contests (often at weddings they are quite frank), conflicts do not arise later. And so that the witnesses themselves are not distracted by their halves sitting at a party, but are engaged precisely in the wedding and the young. It is necessary to understand that they should also be sociable and cheerful people who like to be in the spotlight, because they are often the ones who set the tone for the wedding itself.

In general, whether it is worth believing in the omens (and just in case, following them) or inviting exactly the one you want to see as your witness, or maybe even do without him, is up to you.
