Imperceptibly St. Patrick's Day, which until recently was only Irish, entered our everyday life. For several years in a row, on March 17 in Russia, everyone becomes Irish and joins the celebration. Catholics honor Saint Patrick, who became the guardian of Ireland, because he delivered it from paganism and drove out the snakes. And everyone who just wants to have fun celebrates another spring reason to relax and unwind.

Green is the official color of Ireland, as well as the color of the clover leaves that all Irish people wear to their clothes on this day. In Russia, it is problematic to find a live green clover in March, but you can make a trefoil from paper, wire or other scrap materials. A symbol of good luck, the trefoil became a symbol of the holiday, because with its help Saint Patrick once explained to the Irish about the Holy Trinity and persuaded his compatriots to convert to Christianity.

In Russia, on St. Patrick's Day, numerous festivals and even parades, concerts of Irish music are held. And, of course, shows of the famous Irish dances - riverdance. You can celebrate by attending one of these events. Or you can take a few river dance lessons at a dance school and perform in front of the audience yourself. In some countries, flash mobs are organized dedicated to St. Patrick's Day, when, by prior arrangement, strangers converge in a busy place and suddenly start dancing in sync. Recordings of these flash mobs can be found on the Internet.

Since Ireland is a country of pubs and good beer, it is customary to drink this particular drink on St. Patrick's Day. There are now an abundance of Irish pubs in Russia, and each of them offers its own program on March 17th. Parties typically include beer draining contests, Celtic dancing, and other entertainment. It is customary to come to costume parties in pubs either in green T-shirts with the words "I love Ireland", or in a leprechaun costume. This fabulous character, a cunning shoemaker, is popular in Irish folklore. He knows how to run on a rainbow and hides his treasure from people: a pot of gold. Distinctive features of the leprechaun are a pointed hat and shoes, a green suit and a staff.
