On September 1 and 2, 2012, the 865th anniversary of the capital was celebrated in Moscow. More than 600 different events were held in the city, over 1.5 million people took part in the celebration.
On Poklonnaya Gora on September 1 and 2, the "Festival of Festivals" took place. It was a mix of the country's most interesting musical events. The event was attended by such music festivals as: "Stereoleto" and "Avant", "More Amore" and "Afisha Picnic", "Usadba Jazz" and others.
A boulevard-long table was organized on Gogolevsky, Nikitsky, Strastnoy, Chistoprudny, Pokrovsky and Yauzsky boulevards. The total length of the tables was about one kilometer. There are sections for artists, designers, book lovers, scientists, musicians and even lovers of delicious and healthy food.
Art festival "Boulevard of Arts" was held in the capital for the seventh time. Petrovsky, Neglinny, Tsvetnoy and Rozhdestvensky boulevards have become venues for various kinds of arts: cinema, literature, music and dance, fashion and design, installations, arts and crafts, etc.
On Pushkin Square for all lovers of musicals a medley was presented, containing songs from famous works of this genre: Cats, "Beauty and the Beast", Mamma Mia, "Zorro", "Little Mermaid", "Sound of Music" and others.
The “Moscow local carnival” passed along the avenue of Academician Sakharov, inspired by the cultures of Asia, Latin America and Europe. Famous dance groups of the capital and street theaters from different Russian cities took part in the celebration. The festival program was attended by ambassadors and plenipotentiaries of countries that have developed traditions of street dance performances: Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Mexico, China.
On the day of the city, Gorky Park was divided into several thematic stylized zones, the first of which (the period of the 30s of the XX century) met guests at the entrance through the main gate, the era of the 2000s - the last in chronology, was located behind the Golitsyn pond.
Artists of the Moscow Circus of Yuri Nikulin on Tsvetnoy Boulevard on September 1 moved their numbers to the square next to the circus. Clowns, acrobats, magicians, trainers - a wonderful circus festival took place here.
The organizers of the holiday in Luzhniki held an entertainment program, which included family sports, demonstration performances of dance couples, master classes by famous athletes and a nine-hour concert.
The festive events in honor of the 865th anniversary of Moscow ended after sunset with a beautiful fireworks display, which was first organized in the territories recently annexed to the capital.
