Festival Grec or Festival Grec de Barcelona is an international festival of theater, dance, music and circus art that will take place in Barcelona for the 36th time. This celebration of contemporary art attracts millions of tourists, renowned cultural figures and politicians from all over the world to Spain.
Festival Grec de Barcelona was born in the 70s of the last century. It got its name in honor of the "Greek Theater", located on the Montjuic mountain, where the first performance of a group of artists took place. At first, performances were held exclusively in this open-air amphitheater, but today the Greek Theater simply cannot accommodate the eventful program of the festival.
Initially, the main mission of the festival was to support and promote Catalan artists, but now "El Grec" is becoming an increasingly international event. Many musicians, dancers and actors from other countries in Europe, Japan, China and the United States of America will come to Barcelona for this cultural festival in 2012.
In 2012, the Greek festival will take place from July 1 to July 31. This famous cultural event will open with a party with free admission and fiery beats from Canteca de Macao and La Troba Kung-Fú. The dancing will be accompanied by a spectacular performance from the Theater Tol from Antwerp.
Festival "Grek" will delight its visitors with the most long-awaited premieres. L'ànima del Bus theater performance from Catalan artists, French dance show Body Remix / Goldenburg Variations from Marie Chouinard, Catalan rumba, circus performances from Cabarets de Circ, open-air film screenings, art workshops for children and much more … In total, within the framework of the Greek festival in 2012, 68 fantastic shows will take place, 34 of which are announced as world premieres.
