Instructions

Step 1

A wedding, as well as registration at the registry office, is possible in Russia from the age of 18. Both married must be baptized and Orthodox. In special cases, which are agreed in advance, it is possible to marry Christians of other confessions - Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans. Usually children from such marriages are recognized as Orthodox. But the ceremony is unacceptable if at least one of the marriages is an adherent of another religion - Buddhist, Muslim, Jew.

Step 2

It is accepted that the sacrament is performed only after a secular marriage. In exceptional cases, the priests will meet you halfway, but for this you need to come in advance to agree with the ministers of the temple.

Step 3

Remember that weddings are not performed during Christian fasts. And since they are periodically repeated throughout the year, you need to take them into account when setting the time of the wedding and the subsequent ceremony of the church wedding. After all, even the first wedding night will not be considered blessed if it falls on the time of fasting.

Step 4

Church marriage is unacceptable for persons who are closely related to each other. On these issues, you can consult in the cathedral or temple where you want to conduct the ceremony.

Step 5

The canons of Orthodoxy allow for a wedding three times in a person's life, in the event that one of the partners remains a widower or was divorced according to church rules. You will be denied the ceremony if the bride or groom is in another marriage - civil or church. A secular marriage is terminated in accordance with the law. To dissolve a previous church marriage, you need to take permission from the bishop and receive a blessing to enter into a new one.

Step 6

If desired, the ceremony can be carried out on the same day as the registration at the registry office, but most often this is not done. A break is left between these two events, since such a load on one day for the newlyweds and their guests will be heavy.

Step 7

Clothes for performing the ritual should be beautiful and elegant. The bride must have her head covered. It is also desirable to have sleeves and a closed chest on the dress. You can use a cape.

Step 8

A few days before the solemn event, you must go through confession. This can be done on weekends and on the eve of Orthodox holidays.

Step 9

And also remember - all questions in the church are decided by the clergy, and not by the watchman or knowledgeable old women. Address any problem to the priest, and you will be able to overcome them.
