It is necessary

  • - fabric of two types: flowing opaque (satin, twill) and airy transparent (organza, nylon),
  • - elastic band or elastic band,
  • - fishing line,
  • - for decoration: beads, sequins, beads, mascara (blue color).

Instructions

Step 1

Decide how you want your costume to look. Usually, a mermaid outfit consists of several elements. In order to look like this character, you need a few thoughtful details: a dress (preferably made of silver fabric, with straps), sleeves that are worn separately (it is most convenient to make them with elastic bands), a head ornament, a sea necklace and a mask (her you can not wear it - it all depends on your desire).

Step 2

Choose your fabric very carefully. It should be easy to handle and affordable. It is best to purchase fabric of two colors, harmoniously combined with each other: one light, flowing, but not transparent, the second fabric can be organza, fine-mesh tulle, nylon. To decorate a costume, it is better to use an elastic band (elastic band), fishing line and various beads (this can be beads, bugles, sequins or rhinestones).

Step 3

Cut out the fabric for the dress in the shape of a rectangle. To make the bodice look attractive, pick up the fabric in the place where you plan to make it. The rectangle should be sewn only to the middle, the upper part of the dress will be fastened (choose the most convenient type of fastener, it can be buttons, clothes hooks or a zipper). You can tuck the top edge of the dress and insert a soft elastic band so that the product holds better on the chest and looks more aesthetically pleasing.

Step 4

Then cut out the straps. They should be about five centimeters wide. Choose the length individually. Sew the straps to the dress. When all the parts are sewn together, you will need to perform a few more simple steps.

Step 5

Stitch the bottom of the dress with a zigzag stitch (the length of the dress should be “maxi” or “midi”). Insert a line at the bottom of the hem into the resulting "zigzag" line, the length of which is slightly shorter than the length of the bottom - this will give the dress a wave-like appearance.

Step 6

Sew a skirt made of a transparent fabric of a suitable color using the same technology, it will be worn under the bottom and should be slightly longer than the top skirt, that is, hide your legs. The petticoat can be attached to the dress, or it can be fitted with an elastic band and put on separately.

Step 7

Embroider the dress with beads with patterns in the form of sea waves, and make a necklace from the beads.

Step 8

Cut out the sleeves in the form of rectangles (each sleeve can be sewn in the form of a wide circular bandage and collect one edge with an elastic band) and a headband, process the edges, decorate.

Step 9

Make a papier-mâché or cloth mask of a suitable color. Decorate your head with a paper crown in the shape of a coral or simply let your hair down, beautifully curling the ends with electric tongs (curling iron). If your budget allows, buy a wig with long hair that is greenish or blue (usually sold in the children's toy department) or paint a few of your curls with blue mascara.
