Celebrating Easter is hard to imagine without a basket with bright, colorful eggs. Dye manufacturers offer a whole palette of different colors, but if you find turmeric or coffee in your kitchen cabinet, and beets, carrots or onions in the refrigerator, coloring can easily be done with scrap materials.

It is necessary

  • - onion peel, water, vegetable oil
  • - beetroot, cabbage or turmeric juice, water
  • - cotton fabric, Pavloposad wool shawl, vinegar, water

Instructions

Step 1

Onion peels will help you get the entire palette from red-orange to rich brown. If you have red onion husks in your arsenal, you can give your eggs a purple color.

Step 2

For coloring, remove the husks from 6-7 large onions. Put the resulting dyeing raw material in a convenient wide saucepan. Fill with water so that the pan is incomplete.

Step 3

Put the pan with the husk to simmer over low heat. To obtain an intense, saturated color, 45-50 minutes is enough.

Step 4

After receiving the coloring composition, place the eggs in a saucepan. They will be cooked in a decoction of the husk. To set the color, the cooking time should take at least 15–20 minutes. Turn the eggs over several times so that they are evenly colored.

Step 5

After finishing the staining procedure, place the eggs in a saucepan with cold water and let cool.

Step 6

In order for the eggs to acquire not only color, but also an attractive appearance, wipe them with a napkin dipped in vegetable oil.

Step 7

For painting in blue-purple color, use a decoction of red cabbage. To do this, chop 300 grams of cabbage coarsely, place in a convenient saucepan and pour ½ liter of cold water.

Step 8

Bring the broth to a boil and continue boiling for a quarter of an hour. During this time, the cabbage will turn pale, and the water will acquire the desired shade. Strain the broth and cool. Beet broth is prepared in the same way.

Step 9

To obtain a yellow tint, you need 20 grams of turmeric, which is poured into ½ liter of cold water and brought to a boil.

Step 10

The resulting volume of broths allows you to color 1-2 eggs at a time. If a larger amount is expected, proportionally increase the amount of natural dye and water.

Step 11

After cooling, pour the broths into jars and place pre-boiled eggs in them. Please note that the broth must completely cover the surface of the eggs.

Step 12

Dyeing time is 4–5 hours.

Step 13

If God has not endowed you with artistic talents, but you want to get a beautiful drawing on Easter eggs, use the technology of fabric dyeing.

Step 14

For this method, a silk tie or a Pavloposad woolen scarf is suitable. Wrap a raw egg with the right side of the fabric and fix by stitching along the contour. Wrap a cotton cloth over the top and tie at the end.

Step 15

Pour water into a saucepan and add 3 tbsp. l. vinegar. Place the eggs gently and cook after boiling for 12-15 minutes. Eggs should be cooled in cold water. As a result of such manipulations, a thin pattern will remain on the surface.
