Celebrating the New Year in Israel falls in September-October and is called Rosh Hashanah - the Jewish New Year. This day necessarily coincides with the first day of the month "Tishrei", which, according to legend, is considered the day of the creation of the world. The Israelis claim that in the next 10 days after Rosh Hashanah, the fate of a person for the coming year is determined.

On New Year's Eve, it is customary for this people to blow the shofar (ram's horn), which is considered a call to repentance. With congratulations, you should wish for a sweet New Year, respectively, at the festive table, sour and spicy dishes are prohibited. And the decoration of the table is the head of a fish or a ram, because the literal translation of Rosh Hashanah is the head of the year.

On the tenth day after the holiday comes the Day of Judgment, Yom Kippur. Therefore, all ten days it is customary to ask for forgiveness from people and God. And Yom Kippur itself is required to be carried out in prayers and fasting. It is also forbidden to wear leather things and use cosmetics.

The New Year, familiar to Russians, which comes on January 1, is celebrated in Israel mainly by people from both the USSR and the CIS. But native Jews in recent years have become accustomed to this rite. More and more decorated Christmas trees appear on the streets, it is not uncommon to meet Santa Claus with the Snow Maiden, or Santa Claus. Even such a tradition as congratulating the president on television on New Year's Eve is already firmly entrenched in Israel. Naturally, this congratulation is addressed to the Russian-speaking Israelis. Despite this, there is no tradition in Israel to walk on New Year's Eve until morning. And January 1 is not a day off. By the way, despite the fact that prices in cafes and restaurants on New Year's Eve grow two or three times, tables need to be booked in advance, as there are a lot of people willing. In addition to the Russian diaspora, celebrating the New Year on January 1 is very popular among Christian Arabs. They gather in cheerful noisy companies, fry kebabs, drink wine and amuse themselves with Arabic songs and dances. And at 12 o'clock at night, grandiose fireworks are launched into the sky.

It so happened that Israel is a multinational country. Christians, Jews, Arabs and Protestants live here. The local indigenous population is famous for its tolerance, therefore, the traditions and holidays of the peoples living in the country are treated with understanding and respect.
