September 22, 2012 in America will celebrate the Day of women in business (American Business Women's Day). The date coincides with the founding of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), which initiated a new national holiday. It was approved by President Ronald Reagan back in 1986. The purpose of the September celebrations is to unite working ladies and evaluate their contribution to the country's economy.
The beginning of the feminist movement for women's rights in the United States of America is considered to be 1848, when hundreds of people signed the Declaration calling for an end to discrimination against women. By the way, among the first activists were three Russian immigrants - Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony and Emma Goldman.
Subsequently, the US Congress passed laws prohibiting organizations from refusing to hire young mothers. Gender discrimination has disappeared from government-funded education programs. American citizens were given access to all professions that were traditionally considered "male" in the past. According to American statistics, enterprising ladies are most actively invading medicine, law, advertising and engineering.
In 1949, Hilary Bufton, a Kansa merchant, teamed up with several feminists to form the Association of American Women in Business. The penetration of women into the commercial sphere immediately increased dramatically. So, at the turn of the 90s, they already owned 4 million small businesses with a total value of $ 50 million. According to the website www.calend.ru, in 2012 more than 57 million women who have their own business will be honored in America.
The holiday of business women quickly gained popularity in the country. ABWA participants believe: this day should unite not only successful entrepreneurs, but also everyone who only dreams of their own business. Social status, race, religion and citizenship are not important for feminists. True, it did not receive the status of an international American Business Women's Day.
Nevertheless, on September 22, receptions and celebrations in honor of the business woman are held at non-governmental organizations in all American states. They honor the most active workers and help beginners. Reports are read, business trainings are held to develop leadership qualities in a woman leader.
According to ABWA's Facebook page, the American Business Women's Day will take place on September 26, 2012 in Reno, Nevada. Business women from different parts of the country are invited to the Atlantis Casino Resort, located near Reno-Tahoe Airport. The most popular gifts for American business women today are elite pens, laptops, smartphones, tablets and USB cards.
