If you are a cat owner, but love to celebrate the New Year with a Christmas tree and gifts under it, decorating your apartment with tinsel and toys, you should think about how to protect all New Year's decorations from the cat.
Of course, you should not completely abandon the New Year's decor at home if you have a cat, but you need to think about how to avoid problems for the cat! To do this, consider the following activities:
- Try to put the tree in a separate room, not letting the cat in there at all. If this is not possible, consider the opposite situation - look for separate rooms for the cat.
- To prevent the tree from falling if the cat climbs on it, use a heavy wide base (cross) to install the tree, or weight the existing one (with bottles of water or sand, screwing it to a thick and wide wooden board or by another method).
- Look for an opportunity to additionally fix the tree by screwing it with wire to the wall or furniture next to it.
All decorations hanging low on the tree are potentially dangerous, because cats may consider them new toys, and while having fun with them, try to drop the tree!
- If possible, block the cat's approaches to the New Year tree from all sides.
- To prevent the cat from throwing valuable glass toys off the tree, place them as high as possible, using wire to attach them to the branches.
- Electric garlands can attract the attention of cats by blinking, so do not leave them on for a long time.
If your cat at least occasionally gnaws at the wires and tries to encroach on the electric garland, the chance of a fire will be great enough!
- Gifts laid out under the tree should also be protected from the cat, because rustling bags and paper, as well as ribbons, will be interesting for him to play.
- Plastic Christmas trees are believed to attract less attention from pets, so if your cat is trying too hard to climb a Christmas tree, buy an artificial fir tree.
- If the cat is constantly trying to climb the tree, try using special animal repellents (they should be regularly sprayed on the spruce).
if you don't want to buy special products, use orange, tangerine or lemon juice, and place their skins under the tree.
