New Year's masquerade is a great occasion to show your imagination and individuality. And the more attention you pay to choosing an image and creating a mask, the more chances you have for success.

Instructions
Step 1
Decide on the character you plan to portray. If there is no specific idea, take the traditional New Year's images as a basis: Santa Claus, Snow Maiden, New Year's Spruce, Snowman, Snowflake, New Year, Snow Queen. Or seek help from the eastern calendar and create your image in accordance with the animal representing the coming year. If you are making a mask for a child, there is a huge list of fairy-tale characters for your choice.
Step 2
Sketch yourself a sketch on paper. This will help you stay on track and organize your actions in the right order.
Step 3
Think about what material you will make the mask from. This can be paper, foil, cloth, leather, fur, rubber, polyethylene, or something more non-standard. When choosing a material, remember a few important rules. The material should not irritate the skin of the face or have a lining. It should correspond to the intended image as much as possible (for example, it is more expedient to make a hare's mask from fur, and Zorro's mask will look the best possible made of black leather or satin).
Step 4
Decide on the fittings that you need to create the most complete look. So, for recognition, you can decorate the New Year's mask with four numbers indicating the next year, or with a clock, the hands of which froze at midnight. Any animal mask will become more expressive with a nose, eyes and mustache. The Snowman mask is inconceivable without a carrot nose. And the main attribute of the Santa Claus mask is a white beard.
Step 5
Make a pattern of the conceived mask. To do this, do not forget to measure the parameters of the face (width of the face, distance between the eyes, location of the nose, etc.). Attach the pattern to your face. If the result suits you, feel free to cut the mask out of the prepared material.
Step 6
Treat the mask according to the material used to avoid quick failure. Sew on / glue on the lining. Attach a mechanism that will hold the mask. It can be either a regular elastic band or a handle, or more complex designs. For example, a ski cap or the temples of goggles, if such are shown on the mask. In any case, do not forget to check the reliability of the fasteners. Cover all holes with additional layers of durable material (especially if you are making a mask out of paper or papier-mâché).
Step 7
Complement the mask with a matching New Year's costume and good mood.
